The Assegai tree is well-known for its decorative fruit that hang like small bells during winter. It is a forest species and will do well in shaded areas of the garden. The toothed dark green leaves gives the tree a nice textured look and makes for an excellent “forest” themed garden. This is a versatile tree, being able to be planted indoors, in pots, as a hedge or as a screen for privacy. It is a slow grower and won’t get too large in an urban environment, however if it grows in a forest environment that is shaded and cool, it can reach heights of up to 15 metres.
