“Perched on the banks of the Buffels River in Pringle Bay, this house has an easy-living permanence that shakes off the salty winds and lets in the sun and the natural beauty of the surrounding indigenous vegetation.” SAOTA
One of the feature trees of the project was the Coral Tree, which required a precise placement in the central courtyard of the house using our expert crane operator. The Coral tree was an oversized 2000-litre tree, measuring at approximately 7m in height with a 20cm stem diameter.
The other feature tree, the even larger Milkwood tree in 3000-litre bag, required the hiring of a 95-ton mobile crane to assist with the planting. This special specimen had to be lifted over the house to be planted in the front of the house along the river edge.
In addition to these two feature trees, we also planted Waterberry trees, a Wild Camphor Bush and a Frangipani.
According to SAOTA’s May 2017 newsletter: “The Waterberry trees placed along the street edge screen the home from the public, and the Coral tree placed in the central courtyard creates a focal point around which the indoor and outdoor spaces are arranged. A mature Milkwood tree was placed on the river edge, creating a continuation of the river landscape.”
