Optional Additional Rates:

Our special compost mix, delivered to site and mixed into the back fill during the installation of trees @ R450.00 / cubic meter. Requirements, if any, is assessed per site and discussed and agreed upon with the client.
As a rule we do not remove excess soil from the site. In exceptional cases we can agree to remove soil at a minimum cost of R400.00 / cubic meter.

Conditions and Further Information:

A) Delivery and Installation
The norm is that the client digs the planting holes according to our specifications. May you require that Trees South Africa dig the holes, standard rates as per the table above will apply.
To handle and plant one 250-liter tree requires a minimum of 5 men, and more men on difficult terrain. If planting sites are not within close proximity (20m) of vehicle access point, and / or situated on steep slopes, and / or up or down steps, a costing specific to the site will be quoted.

Delivery and installation within 7 working days from date of placing the order, except for 3 000-liter trees and bigger, which will be arranged on an individual basis with the client.

If immediate exclusive delivery is required (less than 7 working days lead time) by the client, normal rates as per table above x 2 are applicable.

Any tree larger than 250-liter bag size requires a crane to plant.

In exceptional cases, due to an individual tree being much larger than the norm for it’s bag size, delivery and installation will be charged at the rates applicable to the next bigger bag size.

Planting holes not dug to specifications provided by us, will result in the following additional expenses to complete planting holes according to specifications:

250-liter size R250 / hour
Bigger than 250-liter size R400 / hour
Staking of trees: Due to the good stem diameter (thickness) of tree stems, trees do generally not require staking. Under certain circumstances (very tall trees and very windy / exposed sites), it is necessary to install staking during the first growing season to anchor trees in the event of excessive wind and stormy conditions. Each installation is assessed on its own merits to determine whether staking is required.

For the very large trees with root ball sizes bigger than 3 000-liter, heights up to 15 meter, crown widths of up to 8 meter and weighing up to 10 ton, the loading, transportation and installation becomes a project requiring proper planning, preparation and individual costing. Trees are being clamped and held in special loading frames and transportation frames on low bed trucks. Special abnormal load permits need to be obtained for transportation. In some instances permits for road closure have to be obtained. The delivery and installation of one tree can easily take two days to complete. See pictures for examples of loading and transportation.

B) Digging of planting holes
Should any underground structures (solid rock, old foundations, building rubble) or utility service lines (e.g. - water, irrigation, sewerage, electricity, telecom, remote security etc) be encountered, the client will be charged for the additional time spent as a result of these unforeseen obstacles. The following rates will apply:
R400 / hour on site as well as for time traveled, - for team of one manager and 3 to 4 workers
R3.50 / km – additional trips required
Plus any costs to hire special equipment such as jack hammers, generators etc.
Although we always work carefully and responsibly, we do not take any responsibility for any damages to underground utility services e.g. - water, irrigation, sewerage, electrical, telecom, remote security etc). The client is responsible to arrange and pay for any repairs to utility services.
Digging of 250-liter planting holes is done by the same team(s) that does the delivery and installation of the trees.
Digging of planting holes for all bag sizes larger than 250-liter is usually done by a different team, independent (separate trip) from the planting (crane truck) team. This results in a relative high expense for a relative simple job. It is therefore obvious that the client can have this job done much more cost effectively by making use of local workforce.
